Sewing thread is the main thread material, which is used to sew all kinds of clothing materials, and has dual functions of practicality and decoration. The quality of sewing thread not only affects the sewing efficiency, but also affects the appearance quality and processing cost of the sewn clothes and products. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the common sense of sewing thread.
The common classification method of sewing thread is raw material classification, including natural fiber sewing thread, synthetic fiber sewing thread and mixed sewing thread.
(1) natural fiber sewing thread
a. Cotton sewing thread: the sewing thread made of cotton fiber through refining, bleaching, sizing and waxing. High strength, good heat resistance, suitable for high-speed sewing and durable pressing, but poor elasticity and wear resistance. It can be divided into no light (or soft wire), silk light and wax light. Cotton sewing thread is mainly used for sewing cotton fabrics, leather and high temperature ironed clothes.
b. Silk thread: long silk thread or silk thread made of natural silk has luster, and its strength, elasticity and wear resistance are better than cotton thread. It is suitable for sewing all kinds of silk clothing, cashmere clothing, fur and leather clothing, etc. In ancient China, silk embroidery thread was often used to embroider exquisite decorative embroidery.
(2) synthetic fiber sewing thread
a. Polyester sewing thread: it is the main sewing thread at present, which is made of polyester filament or staple fiber. It is characterized by high strength, good elasticity, wear resistance, low shrinkage and good chemical stability. It is mainly used for sewing jeans, sportswear, leather products, wool and military uniform. It should be noted that polyester sewing thread has low melting point and is easy to melt during high-speed sewing, which will block the needle eye and lead to seam fracture. Therefore, it is not suitable for high-speed sewing.
b. Nylon sewing thread: Nylon sewing thread is made of pure nylon multifilament. It is divided into long filament thread, short fiber thread and elastic deformation thread. At present, the main variety is nylon long filament thread. It has the advantages of high strength and elongation [msoffice3], good elasticity, and its breaking length is three times higher than that of cotton thread of the same specification. Therefore, it is suitable for sewing chemical fiber, woolen cloth, leather and elastic clothing. The greater advantage of nylon sewing thread lies in the development of transparent sewing thread. Because of its transparency and good color property, it reduces and solves the difficulty of sewing wiring, and has a broad development prospect. However, due to the high rigidity and low strength of transparent thread in the current market, the stitch is easy to float on the surface of fabric, and its high temperature resistance and sewing speed can not be too high, it is mainly used for decal and edge stacking Sew, not used for stitching.
c. Vinylon sewing thread: made of vinylon fiber, with high strength and smooth stitch, it is mainly used for sewing thick canvas, furniture cloth, labor protection articles, etc.
d. Acrylic sewing thread: made of acrylic fiber, mainly used as decorative thread and embroidery thread, with low twist and bright dyeing.
(3) mixed sewing thread
a. Polyester / cotton sewing thread: made of 65% polyester and 35% cotton. It has the advantages of both polyester and cotton. It can not only meet the requirements of strength, wear resistance and shrinkage, but also overcome the heat resistance of polyester, which is suitable for high-speed sewing. It is suitable for all kinds of clothing such as cotton, polyester / cotton, etc.
b. Cored sewing thread: sewing thread with filament as the core and covered with natural fiber. Its strength depends on the core, and its wear resistance and heat resistance depend on the outer yarn. Therefore, the cored sewing thread is suitable for high-speed sewing with high-strength stitches. In addition, sewing thread can also be divided into coil, tube, spool, ball, etc. according to the use, it can be divided into sewing thread, embroidery thread, industrial thread, etc., which will not be detailed here.
